Farrell AC cost guide

AC installation & replacement: what should you budget?

A complete central system is more than the outdoor unit. This planning range covers selected Farrell-supplied split and package replacements, with the installation work stated in each proposal.

What are you paying for?

Straight-cool split systems

$7,300–$9,600

Four reviewed 1.5–3 ton projects. Both indoor and outdoor equipment were included; existing connections were generally reused.

Heat-pump replacement projects

$8,600–$13,500

Eight reviewed 2.5–4 ton projects. Some included multistage equipment, variable-speed air handlers or optional coverage. Capacity alone does not determine the price.

Package units

Written estimate

The sample contained one 5 ton package replacement at $9,900 after a discount. One project is not a dependable range for every package unit.

Customer-supplied central equipment

Written estimate

We need the exact model, matched equipment, condition, installation requirements and proposed scope before pricing the labor.

Read the scope before comparing prices.

What the work covers

  • The named outdoor unit and matching indoor equipment, or the specified package unit.
  • Installation labor and the connections, pad, controls and safety devices listed in the proposal.
  • Permit work where included in the written scope. Most reviewed installations listed a permit; confirm your project.

What may be separate

  • Whole-home duct replacement, major electrical changes and structural work unless listed.
  • Optional air treatment, upgraded controls and extended coverage.
  • Customer-supplied equipment: installation-only work needs its own estimate.

What changes the price?

  • System capacity and heat-pump versus straight-cool equipment.
  • Efficiency, staging, indoor equipment and zoning.
  • Attic or roof access, crane needs, line sets, drains and existing connections.

Behind the planning guidance

How we checked the prices.

We reviewed 13 completed central-system installations from June through August 2026. Relevant project charges ran from $7,350 to $13,406.28. The display is rounded outward. One project included extended labor coverage and surge protection; a separately priced $1,800 air-purifier package was excluded from another. Past discounts are not current offers.

13 distinct completed records were reviewed for this service. Subgroups have smaller samples, as described above. This is a selected scope review, not a statistical average. We do not publish customer details. A historical discount or an older price is not a current promotion.

Questions worth asking.

Does this include both the indoor and outdoor unit?

The split-system examples do. They include a condenser and air handler; package units contain the specified equipment in one cabinet. A condenser-only replacement is a different scope. Your proposal should name every unit being supplied.

Why can a smaller system cost more?

The equipment series, efficiency, controls, access and installation work matter along with capacity. Our reviewed projects included different heat pumps, straight-cool systems, connections and upgrades, so prices overlap.

Are permits, a new thermostat and ductwork included?

Only when listed. Many reviewed installations included a permit and thermostat while reusing existing ducts and electrical connections. A complete duct system, panel work or a difficult access arrangement needs a separate stated scope.

Is a replacement estimate free?

Our current catalog lists a free new-system estimate and a free second opinion. A diagnostic service visit for a system that is not working has its own charge.

What warranty comes with the installation?

Coverage depends on the equipment, registration and written proposal. Labor coverage also has maintenance conditions. Ask us to explain the manufacturer and labor terms, exclusions and any optional coverage before you decide.
